Meetings
At the Newmarket Gospel Hall we refer to our various gatherings as “meetings” as opposed to “services” or “church services”. While we believe that, as members of a local church, we should absolutely serve one another and our community, when we gather together as a local church, it is primarily to “meet” with our Lord Jesus Christ, who has promised His presence in the midst of His gathered people (Mat 18:20)
Description of Meetings:
All are welcome to attend any of our regular meetings that we seek to hold in accordance with the pattern and teachings of the New Testament. For example, we believe that the New Testament teaches that both men and women are crucial to the functioning of a local church but that God has appointed different roles for each. As taught in 1Co 14:34, 1Ti 2:8, 1Ti 2:11-12, the role of public participation in the local church is to be fulfilled by men. This difference is not one of inequality (as Gal 3:28 teaches) but of role and function as ordained by God Himself.
Another New Testament distinction that we seek to carry out is that the Breaking of bread is an expression of the fellowship enjoyed by the members of the local church (1Cor 10:16-17), that is those who have been saved by the grace of God, subsequently baptized by immersion and then added to the fellowship of the local church (Acts 2:41-42)

Most visitors will find this meeting unique. We have no officiating Minister. We meet in the same way as the early New Testament church. The members of the assembly are seated around a table with emblems: a loaf of bread and a cup of wine, symbols of the body and blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The meeting is held according to Jesus’ request to do this “in remembrance of me,” 1 Corinthians 11:24-25. The men participate under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. There is no prescribed program, but a theme often emerges in the singing of hymns, prayers and Bible readings. Often there is a time when one is led to consider the sinful nature of mankind that we would put the loving Son of God of the universe to such a horrible death.
With thanksgiving and praise, we worship God the Father through the Holy Spirit for His mercy, love and grace. The focus is on the Son of God who came to the earth for the purpose of dying and paying the debt of sin for each of us. Thanksgiving is made for the emblems and they are then passed among members of the assembly. A triumphal song of praise, a short lesson, some announcements and a closing prayer will usually end the meeting.

Planned for children ages 4 through teens, this interactive program seeks to share the Gospel (the good news of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ) and encourage Christian growth. The first half includes a time of singing, learning Bible verses, and reviewing a short story. For the second half, children attend age appropriate small group classes where the Bible is taught.
